Newark!

I'm on the third leg of my trip: a seven hour layover in the dirty Jerz. I took T-pizzle's advice and had a nice stiff gin and tonic on the plane last night. Between that and the benadryl, I was out like a light. Well, until the perfectly behaved infant two rows behind me let out a bloodcurdling 20 second scream; luckily we both fell right back to sleep after that.

Leaving yesterday was really hard. If you have to make a big move, especially one that is going to take you away from your family, friends, and everything you know and love, I recommend not giving yourself enough time to prepare. It worked pretty well for me. The last two weeks have been a buffered solution of panic and exhaustion - frantically moving out of my house, selling/giving away all worldly possessions, leaving my job, and trying to spend precious few moments with family and friends. I didn't really have a chance to reflect and I think that this was the way to go. I even managed to leave one of my bags in the house and mum had to dash home from the airport to get it for me. This left us about 45 seconds to have a full on blubbering meltdown goodbye at the airport before I had to run to the gate. You know you're looking a hot mess when the security screen ID checker offers you tissues and tries to make conversation to cheer you up. I would love to have spent more time with mum and smoosh before I left, but if I had, I don't think I would have been able to leave.
